Seram Baru (Nieuw Seram) | Singelpark Leiden
Crafting New Narratives | Wereldmuseum Rotterdam
March – 2025 The collection of Wereldmuseum Rotterdam consists of objects from all over the world, each with a unique story. What they have in common is that they are made by human hands. Making (crafting) is a way to shape ideas, feelings and traditions, to pass on knowledge and to create connections.
In this new room of the exhibition Kruispunt Rotterdam, crafts and making cultures are central. Contemporary makers such as Funda Baysal, Hatutamelen, Chequita Nahar and Amy Suo Wu build on traditions and give them new meaning, bringing the past and the present together in a dynamic dialogue.
The portrait photos for the posters and the Video portraits (on display at the exhibition) were taken by Roel van Tour .
I am extremely proud and grateful to be part of this beautifully composed and designed exhibition.
Go see and experience it, and let me know how you experienced it.

Mena Nanala
October 2023 | Mena Nanala | Westelijk handelsterrein, Rotterdam
Exhibiting artist with reliefpaintings, as part of the group exhibition, curated by Molukkers aan de Maas & Awareness Moluccan Identity. The theme Mena Nanala, loosely translated as “a view on the Future”.
This remarkable exhibition unites talented Moluccan artists as it delves into the theme of Mena Nanala, offering a view into the future.
The exhibition, titled Mena Nanala, which translates to looking forward in Bahasa Tanah, captures the essence of a desire to transcend the present and the past, inviting a spirit of renewal, innovation, and creativity.
Mena Nanala reflects on the colonial past, acknowledging its remembrance and understanding, yet asserts that colonial patterns no longer dictate the future. It inspires artists to express their unique visions and interpretations of what lies ahead, drawing from their deeply rooted Moluccan identity.
Stimuleringsfonds Creative industrie
September 2023 | Stimuleringsfonds Creative industrie | Selected to recieve a National funding from the Talent development program.
Designer James Noya works in wood engraving. As a result of colonialism, much of the knowledge of and about Moluccan wood engraving and Moluccan symbols and motifs has been lost. In his practice, James focuses on reintroducing this craft, injecting new life into it. In the coming year, Noya wants to further develop his wood engraving technique by taking a sculpting course at Creapoelka and wants to do in-depth research on heritage, based on museum collections. In addition, he wants to investigate the right stage or platform for presenting his work. Noya intends to present his work in a short documentary, which he will make in collaboration with video producer and director Geraldo Solisa.

July 2023 – Artwork for Book cover “The PAST IN THE PRESENT – Segregation and relational peacebuilding in Ambon” by Dr. Tamara Soukotta
In her thesis, Tamara Soukotta argues that (religious) segregation in Ambon put in place under the Dutch colonial administration and is sustained-maintained throughout the (post)colonial history of Ambon to the present time is coloniality of power manifested.
Nonetheless, relational peacebuilding-cultivating as practised by peace initiatives in Ambon has been the way to recover what was erased by coloniality. In other words, relational peacebuilding in Ambon is decoloniality in praxis.

When Things are Beings
November 2022 | When Things are Beings | Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam | Exhibiting Artist in the group exhibition of 24 Artists and designers. Hatutamelen’s woodcarved sculpture “Salawaku, Active Protection through Compassion” was purchased by Stedelijk Museum as part of the biannual Municipal Art Acquisitions with support of the City of Amsterdam.
The group exhibition When Things Are Beings reveals the power of objects and sculptures in a range of visual languages. Bridging the material and immaterial realms, the projects forge connections between ideas and objects, spirituality and materiality, and link social issues to tangible phenomenon.
When Things Are Beings moves between the elusive appeal of abstract concepts, and forms of spirituality that can lie hidden in objects and sculptures. Design and art can enchant or captivate us in ways that cannot always be clearly explained or defined. For example, in FOLD, a mirror made of layered sandblasted glass, designer Sabine Marcelis explores material properties that initially escape direct observation, by playing with depth and perception. Artist Ana Navas’ sculptures titled Excuses consist of shapeshifting household objects, such as a drying rack, that ‘put on a costume’, and grew out of her fascination with the relationship between popular culture and what is known as ‘high’ art.

Jan 2022 | Design Album Cover Artwork for Gino-Cochise LBM III
Gino-Cochise’s claim of being born from a coconut might not be the strangest thing about him; what truly captivates is his wholly unique sound. His music is a journey of meditation through sound and healing through movement, embodying a spiritual philosophy expressed through experimental electronics, hip-hop, soul, and a myriad of indefinable styles. His staccato, whispered rap voice stands out unmistakably in a crowd. His album LBM III is an endless book of sounds that can never be fully explored. Dreamy yet compelling, Gino-Cochise invites listeners into his anti-materialistic universe where freedom and wellness are abundant.
